Background: The aim of the BASEL VII study (Basel Abdominal Symptoms Evaluation Study) is to test, if and to what extent, the use of a standardized patient history, a standardized clinical examination, routine laboratory markers and novel biomarkers can improve the diagnostic performance and the management of patients presenting to the ED with abdominal pain.
